Revitalizing Community Through Art—Lessons from Japan

On November 6, 2013, JCIE and the Japan Local Government Center/CLAIR New York will hold a seminar with two organizations from Japan who will speak about their innovative work in preserving Japanese traditional arts while revitalizing their local communities. Both are recipients of the 2013 Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society.

ENVISI (エンビジ): Presenting from Miyagi Prefecture on kiriko, a paper-cutting craft, which took on special significance after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.

Ipponsugi-dori Shinkokai (一本杉通り振興会): Presenting from Ishikawa Prefecture about the tradition of hanayome noren and how it is fostering community revitalization.
