The Dialogue and Research Monitor tracks policy-relevant dialogue and research publications dealing with East Asia and pressing issues in the region. Published annually, it focuses specifically on studies that are multilateral in nature and broadly related to security-traditional, nontraditional, and human security-as well as to regional community building. This initiative is part of JCIE's broader efforts to better identify regional trends and help strengthen the intellectual underpinnings for greater regional cooperation and community building.
The Monitor is an extension of work conducted from 1995 to 2002 by Paul Evans, Shirley Yue, and a team of researchers at York University and then the University of British Columbia, with Ford Foundation funding. From 1998 onward, it has been operated as part of the Asia Pacific Agenda Project (APAP), a consortium of policy research institutions in the Asia Pacific region, and supported with funding from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Each issue of the Monitor includes an overview of trends in intellectual dialogue concerning East Asia during the past six months and it lists up major multilateral governmental and nongovernmental meetings and significant studies.
