Yoshibumi Wakamiya, Senior Fellow

Yoshibumi Wakamiya joined JCIE as a senior fellow in February 2013 after four decades of covering Japanese politics and foreign policy for the Asahi Shimbun. One of Japan’s most distinguished journalists, he served as editor-in-chief of the Asahi Shimbun from May 2011 to January 2013. From 2008 he was a columnist, and from 2002 he was chairman of the Editorial Board. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, he joined the Asahi Shimbun in 1970. He spent a year studying at Yonsei University in Korea in 1981, was a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution in the United States in 2001, and is currently a guest professor at Keio and Ryukoku Universities in Japan.

Mr. Wakamiya is the author of numerous books, including The Postwar Conservative View of Asia (1999) and Kankoku to Nihonkoku [South Korea and Japan] (2004).
