APAPAsia Pacific Agenda Project

Second Forum: Bali, Indonesia
January 11-12, 1997

The Bali forum, held on January 11-12, 1997, was the sequel to the first forum organized in Tokyo in November 1995. Approximately 40 experts and opinion leaders from policy research institutions and other organizations in the Asia Pacific region were in attendance.

Aside from the initial session, which reviewed the positive roles played by independent research institutions in regional international relations, the subsequent sessions took their substance from the preliminary reports of two surveys that were being conducted by two multilateral teams on the topics of "Domestic Adjustments in the Face of Globalization" and "The New Security Agenda." Members of the two teams participated in a one-day workshop immediately preceding the Bali forum to compare notes and to discuss their findings and the related implications. These discussions served as the basis for the presentations in the final two sessions of the Bali forum.
