2nd Study Group on Empowering Women Political Leaders in Japan

May 20, 2019
Tokyo, Japan

At JCIE's second Study Group on Empowering Women Leaders in Japan, JCIE Senior Fellow Hitoshi Tanaka spoke with the Diet members about critical international security issues and how Japan can position itself against the backdrop of structural changes in both developing and developed nations, populism, and current US-China relations. Tanaka is currently the Chairman of the Institute for International Strategy, Japan Research Institute. He previously served for three years as Japan’s deputy minister for foreign affairs, during which time he was a top advisor to Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on a broad range of issues, including relations with North Korea, China, Russia, and the United States.
