Korea-Japan Forum
13th Meeting
August 29–31, 2005
Forty-one political leaders, business executives, scholars and public intellectuals gathered from August 29 to 31 for the 13th Korea-Japan Forum on Cheju Island, Korea, to discuss political trends in Japan and Korea, bilateral history issues, Korea-Japan cooperation on East Asia community building, and measures to promote greater exchange between the two countries. The year 2005 is the 40th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-Korea ties, highlighting the importance of constructing a stronger and more forward-looking relationship between the two countries, so the participants issued the 2005 Cheju Island Statement in Korean and Japanese upon the conclusion of the forum.
